About IP Address, MAC Addresses, and so on...

What are all of the different ways that I can be identified online?

I have researched this topic somewhat, but the more I read, the more confused I become?!

My understanding is that an IP Address *may* tells others from when I am connecting to the Internet.

And that a MAC Address uniquely identifies my physical computer, although I'm not sure it can be used against me?!

Thanks,

Debbie

If you have a router the only mac address visible on the Internet is of the WAN port on your router, not any of the computers behind it. Similarly with the IP address and yes you can geolocate most IPs but it isn't like on TV where they can get it down to the exact part of the building you are in. Most of the time it can just narrow down to the city you are in.

You can test it out for yourself: http://www.infosniper.net
