Search Engine Question

Do you think the recent updates with Google have made directories obsolete?

I used to sign up to all the web developer directories simply for ranking and now I've noticed that those sites barely even show anymore when they used to always appear in the top few pages. My rank has also plummeted in past months so I'm wondering how much time/money should even be put into that anymore.

waising your time...

handling ever growing masses of information, Google & Co. have been, gladly, forced to be more selective during the past Years. Just linking your site with someone else does not longer prove to be effective. Backlinks to a Site must today be combined with 'searched for' information, when placed on other Sites, to be PR -effective. Anything else is a waist of time.

Lately, a growing number of Sites are found, reproducing popular content, b.Ex. Script Programmer Newbie Q&A's, they show 1 or two Images, lots of Text with textlinks, Comment-Fields, etc., all done to seek Google's interest, BLOG-Stylem nothing else.

Totay, one must 'show off' to be recognized, like in real Life...

good luck

Ernie

So did these Google changes effectively put web directories out of business??

Should people cancel their subscriptions to the directories now?

I just don't understand how some businesses can get ranked high when the nature of their business is not conducive to fresh, exciting, rock-star content. For instance with web development, how many new things can someone blog about or write articles on? The funny thing is that I see sites listed on the top page now that clearly haven't been updated in months, which defies the "freshness" theory Google put out.

Hi,

I like the recent updates by Google because it gives us relevancy and focus on unique contents.

Always keep in mind that now Google want original work only he consider do follow as well as no follow links but only from relevant sites that's why directory submission values decreased due to less relevancy.
