Question Review / Feedback Site - What options

I'm considering a review / feedback site for local businesses. I was thinking of using Wordpress as a platform for this.

Users will need to signup to post comments, comments will be live time edited to remove profanity and users will (after moderation) be able to create a new category of business.

Any suggestions on comments for Wordpress as a platform?

Thanks

Hmm, not sure wordpress is what you are looking for. To me, wordpress is a blogging community, and although it can be used for many other things, it can be very limited. Do you have any experience building MVC websites? If I was starting this I would want to have complete control, with my own DB and design. If you're a newbie, then maybe wordpress is a better idea.

P.S: what type of review/feedback website are you thinking of? General business? Food? Entertainment?

Sorry for the delayed response. But, if your looking to blog about foods you've tasted and like, wordpress is certainly the way to go. On the other hand, if you want a site where other people can review and rate foods, restaurants and such, you might want to look at some different options.

I assume what you are thinking about is similar to Yelp? It's a difficult industry to compete in, obviously. As a start you might want to stick with what you know, ie. blogging platforms but I surmise a better way to go forward is to learn MVC in order to create your own site or better yet, find someone who knows how to do this.

I'm going to have to disagree with alliv105. WordPress isn't the most popular CMS in the world for nothing, and it is so much more than just a blogging platform now. There are even developers using WordPress to make full on Applications.

WordPress is flexible enough that you can use it to do anything you want. There is a huge community of WordPress developers out there that write plugins and themes for just about anything. I know there are plugins for ratings and user accounts you can use, and I would be really surprised if you don't find entire themes dedicated to exactly what you want to do.

The only concern I have about WordPress is the scope of the site. If it's for a huge International Company. No, WordPress probably isn't the best choice, but for what you want to do. I think it's perfect.
