Question Should I use DB or shopping cart for this?

Hi from the newbie of newbies

I am starting to learn PHP and mysql and I hope this is the right forum (rather than mysql).

Imagine a website that lets you select a hotel room by its specification, such as 'with jacuzzi', with 'satellite Television' etc and the user is able to select a room based on their desired criteria, both within a specific hotel and from a selection of them.

They would also be able to book the room in realtime and provide their CC details.

In trying to set out the structure for this in my head. Can anyone suggest to me the best way to go? Should I do most by Mysql DB linked to PHP and for the CCdetails do a separate shopping cart, or should I build it all around a shopping cart?

Or am I so new that I am just showing my confusion at this stage?

suitably fogged

Nightfire is on a distinguished road
Once the user has selected stuff from the menus, store the info into sessions, and then on the payment side calculate everything in the sessions. You don't need a shopping cart just for the payments, you'll need something like http://www.paysystems.com which will save you alot of time

I'd use the db to give info out, to store info about the user, and things like that, sessions or/and cookies to store the info temporarily, and a merchant provider to pay for everything

Thanks Nightfire.

Its a bit clearer now since you separated for me the info supply and collection from the payment.
