is the following encryption normal?

i am using a pbkdf2 function i found on the internet, and when the password is "sparrow" this shows weird symbols:

7he3u'&gG TMNM_N$7)svi.Mlg1OK'=56݀L*@n|'f7/]է m30@Of]юI IY|GZ;pa

....ummm, well, is that normal?
i was expecting normal A-Z0-9a-z sort of thing...

It will show you whatever it can show you regardless of whether or not it 'looks' normal.

I suspect you could use full text or a blob. Varchar will be useless since you'll never know the length.
