Simple image slide show help

Hello,

I am trying to make a simple slide show. First of all should I even be using jQuery for this?

But my main question is in regards to automating this or not. What I mean is when someone here in the office uses this animation and wants to add or remove images, how should I handle that? Should I use an XML file to register the images and associated text? Or should I simply program it so that when an image is added to the folder the code knows to use all of the images and maybe refers to a text file for the associated text.

Any help would be appreciated. If you do have any advice could you please be somewhat specific.
