Message board (kind of) needed

Hi folks, this is actually my first ever post on this forum, so I’m sorry if I get the format incorrect.

I'm not "new" to website coding, and in the grand scheme of things I’m not a novice, but I’m definitely not and expert either...

I'm looking for the right terminology, or better yet and example somewhere of what I’m looking for... Let me explain...

I once played a PBeM game, where you could log into the GM's website, and then visit a wall, where you could post under either your real name, or character name.

The post itself is quite basic, and I’d be happy with this or something with more flexibility.

I suspect for some people this would be easily coded, but that’s not for me I don't think... can anyone point me in the right direction...?

Are you after a message board similar to this?

Have a look for phpBB, which I believe is still free. You'll a domain and host in order to get it going however.

Thanks for the reply EVO, however (and I'm REALLY sorry I can't explain it very well), it's more of a WALL, you log in, and can make a post to the wall (which appears at the bottom of the posts) and before you submit, you can choose to post it under either your real name, or (in this case) in game name.

OK, it's been suggested that what i'm after is more of a message board, than a forum/bulletin board. But I need something with functionality to choose which name you post under...
