Lightbulb Suggestion: ASP.NET + ASP

Given that the forums seem to attract very similar posts, and that both of them list that ASP.NET help should be posted there, it seems like it may be logical to combine the ASP.NET and ASP categories.

This would likely make things a bit easier on those who respond to ASP.NET related questions. It may also open up space for a generic ".NET" if there's interest down the road (for non-ASP.NET applications, such as Windows 8 apps or .NET desktop apps).

Any thoughts?

I'm wondering if a standard .NET forum should exist instead. So in computer programming forums, add a .NET parent forum, and we can even break it down into VB, C#, ASP.NET, etc if desired. As for standard ASP, I'm not sure if that would work in the .NET, but could be put into the other server side languages (I'm not sure what the popularity of standard ASP is anymore, but I would assume its greatly declined with ASP.NET as its replacement). I don't like the idea of combining ASP.NET and ASP into a single forum; the languages are different enough that it just wouldn't make sense to me to do so.

Agreed, Fou-Lu. Two different beasts.

And the popularity of Classic ASP has declined only slightly more than the popularity of ColdFusion.

The neurotic, pedantic jerks are not the owners; just the people who are in control of the "popularity contest".

I don't disagree with (ASP.NET != ASP), but I would definitely question how popular it is. My "let's combine the two" logic was based on a totally unscientific "let me peck at random threads" analysis that told me that much of ASP is actually ASP.NET.

ASP was retired in ~2002, wasn't it? I'd be pretty surprised if it was still in widespread use.

I like this idea better. Have a forum for all the .NET languages regardless of targeting desktop, web or mobile.
