Question Code for Recent Posts Section?

I've been looking endlessly for code for creating my own recent posts section on my blog, but all google keeps turning up is codes for WordPress, Blogger and such.

I've been building my site from scratch (and learning in the process) and am wondering how this can be done through custom code. I'm embarrassed to say that I don't even know if it would be HTML, Javascript, PHP or what...

It would make it a whole lot easier than having to manually enter and remove every single post.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

This kind of functionality is what PHP/MySQL was designed for, and Wordpress, et al, use it. It will be well worth your time to learn!

Try: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/phpmysql5/
