Does a mb need to support RAID if a hard drive enclosure does

I want to set up a FreeNAS server. When you sue FreeNAS you don't have a hard drive in the box. You have a processor, and RAM. Then you have a separate harddrive enclosure for however many hard drives and the FreeNAS server allows clients to access the hard drives for file sharing. Obviously you want to have RAID on the hard drive enclosure for redundancy.

M question is; does a mb have to support RAID to work with an hard drive enclosure that supports RAID? Can the mb not support RAID, and the RAID on the hard drive enclosure still work?

Sorry if this is unclear.

Depends on how the enclosure is connected to the computer. But generally speaking, no the motherboard doesn't need to support RAID.

It will be SATA. A SATA card, and SATA enclosure.

Ok, then no; especially if the enclosure presents itself as one disk.
