Arrow Users Online Counter?

Okay, I was curious as to how I can get a users online count.
Look at this site:
http://www.ffspirit.net/?nav=tactics...nu=tactics-adv
Just scroll down to the bottom and look at the left; you will see a link saying "• 2 Users online" or how ever many people are on...
Now if you click it, it opens a window; "http://www.ffspirit.net/online/usersonline.php" and then it shows:
2 Users online at: http://www.ffspirit.net
Most ever users online is 9 on the 10th of September, 2003 @ 04:56

Then under it, it shows:
Total______________ Page

Can anyone tell me how I can get something like that? I have used FASTONLINE USERS, but it doesn't show that in-depth detail.
Please help.
Thanks!

glenngv will become famous soon enough
you need a server-side language and a database to do that.

You'd need to use a language like ASP or PHP and a database like Access, MsSQL, MySQL, etc.

And you'd need to track user sessions and then in an include have it update the database with whatever page they are viewing.

OracleGuy:
I wish to do the same thing using ColdFusionMX, can you give me any tips regarding how to count how many Session.users (or whatever I name the var.) are currently active?

ghell is on a distinguished road
do you have any server side language knowledge or are you at least able to do it?
Personally i prefer ASP to php, but thats just my opinion (and, it seems, the oppinion of most online businesses)

i am going to make a visitor counter for members and guests in the next few days (provided i can get around my router problem) so if you are planning on using ASP, perhaps we can work together somehow, and if not, perhaps we can share the theory behind it (which would be the same in any server side language, i usually mentally or otherwise draw flow diagrams

ghell:
Sure thing man, always keen to brainstrom w/others.
However, Im in the middle of a massive project atm and seeing as this counter is only a side note I've had to put it on the backburner.

I'm currently studying multimedia and IT so I have access a massive rescource of server side scripting info (primarily my createCode teacher ) and would be glad to share.
If I get started 1st I'll PM you; if you start 1st I'd appreciate if you could do the same.
Cheers,
Andrew

edit: Im mainly referring to flow diagrams/psuedo code as ASP and Cold Fusion don't play friendly
