Managing Changes to Large Website
Here's the problem I have:
They have a government audit coming up, and one of the managers here plans on doing some serious overhaul of their procedural manual to ensure that that it's hunky-dory before the Feds get a look at it. That's all fine and dandy, but the way she wants to make and track changes gives me the shivers.
She asked me to put the whole website into a Word document so she can make the changes there. Her thoughts are that I would get an e-mail telling me where in the Word doc she made changes, and I would go and make the same changes on the website.
I tried to explain to her why this is a bad idea (file size, difficulty in finding information in a word doc, word doc not being in-sync with actual website, etc., etc.) To drive my point home, I actually took the time to make the Word document -- it's 500 pages long and has over 90,000 words. She's still pretty set on the idea, but gave me until Monday morning to come up with a different solution.
So what's your thinking? Any ideas here? I'm completely at a loss. Any thoughts or solutions would be helpful. Thanks!
TL;DR Boss wants to make and track changes to website in a 500-page, 90,000 word MS Word Doc. I have until Monday to come up with a better system, and I'm completely stuck.
