Creating reflective text

Hi all

I am trying to learn some more techniques on photoshop (cs5).

I have created an image with text which is then reflected underneath. The reflected text has a layer mask with black to white gradient in it to cause the text to fade to transparent. What I wanted to next do was have a 1px stroke around the text to make it show more, however when the stroke is on the reflective text the fade to transparent does not work.

Does anyone have an idea as to a. why? b. is there a way around it?
I have attached the images so you can see what I mean.

not sure about photoshop, but you outline the main object then add transparency separately. In my app you create text object completely with outline. Copy & Paste a duplicate. Then flip the dup and apply transparency. So the only difference in both objects is that one has a transparency filter applied the other one doesn't.
