you are talking two different things.... sit down at a table with 5 sheets of paper. label one 'menu' and one 'java applet'; pretend that is you html page
now take them all and place them one on top of the other. that is z index. placing them spread out in some order (this is what you want yes?)- that is CSS positioning. this thread needs moved to html/css
