Navigation Menu

Hello,

I'm working on a website and it seems that the main navigation menu isn't up to par. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about it just makes it not very nice or good looking.

It may be due to the menu background images just appearing with the links on them. Because of this I thought it'd be a good idea to try and implement some sort of fade in on the images, but if I did that the links (text) would appear before the background.

Basically, I feel stuck and am just looking for a way to make my nav menu look nicer, whatever that entails. Something about it just seems off.

If anyone could take a look and provide some input or ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

I feel like if I were somehow able to convert my current menu to a 'superfish' menu or some sort of javascript animated menu, it may be an improvement, although I'm not sure how I would go about doing such a thing while keeping consistent with my current design.

The site url is here: http://cecvp.net.s41035.gridserver.com/

Thanks a ton!
