Cool I am sure this has been beat to death but...

So I am new to Coding/Programming and am at the point where I need to figure out which route is best for me, money wise.

I would not mind working for a company, but would much rather build my own money generating sites and work from home.

Now that you know what my intent is. Which would be the best route for me to go?

Should I stick with design, or should I learn development?

If programming is my better option, which language should I learn in order to build the better site, to draw in the most income?

Thank you in advance guys, and again I am sure this has been asked before.

I am professionally a designer but now i am trying to learn development too as it opens up quite few gates to expand my knowledge. What you need to identify is how much time are you willing to put in to learn anything.

Designing is all about :

- photoshop
- basic flash (which has almost been eradicated by the fabulous jQuery developers)
- html/xhtml
- css
- js
- jQuery

Sure illustrator/indesign/coreldraw are used by some but i dont use them personally.

Development is : (level of difficulty-according to me)

- php (easiest)
- .net (tougher)
- java (toughest)

Surely if you need to start working/earning asap then you need to opt for easier options. Designing/development are easy to learn but hard to get expertise in so you need to make up your mind if you want to do something creative or some thing complex/coding. Surely one can earn more than other if you do it exceptionally well so they mustn't be compared (according to me). Designing is the quickest to learn and php is easiest of the development part. Hope it helps.

P.S.: all of the above is my opinion not any kind of standard (if it turns out otherwise).

Hello Beto2424,

WARNING:
I don't want you to take this personally, and this is not an attack:

I generally feel there are two categories of developers:

* Passionate developers who love software development
* Pay check coders

If you happen to fall into the second category, my honest truthful advice would be to get out while you can.

Why?

Software development is hard, no actually its really hard.

You will find, for this reason, the best developers are the ones who are passionate, they care about their craft. Its their art form, its their masterpiece.

If all you care about is money, then go chase that, please don't chase a mirage that is not yours!

Learn from other people then go and do your own thing (if you still want too). The experience and knowledge you get through collaboration alone is worth it.
