It's okay for still being new. I have some notes I think could help you.
When using a background image, one shouldn't be able to see where the image ends. It can be tough with an image as bold as the one you've chosen. Perhaps something similar could work, but I'd make sure you couldn't see the edges.
The section with the content (main-wrap) could be improved with some padding all around. Those abrupt edges can be distracting, and not so pleasing to the eye.
I'd increase the line-height in the description. This makes it easier to read, and it makes the site look cleaner.
I'd lose the welcome text near the top. It's distracting, and it's not done much, anymore.
The design seems a little disjointed. It's important for a design to fit within itself. There seem to be different styles and ideas competing. I'd pick one, and stick with it.
