What does 404/404.html in a .htaccess file stands for ?

Hi,

I have no idea about .htaccess configeration. I found this file configeration entry in the .htaccess

 404/404.html

on my web server in the root directory. What do I suppost to do ?

I tried to delete it, but it seems like I can't save my homepage as index.html anyway.

I put it back in and saved my hompage as 404.html, but doesn't help eather ???!!

404/404.html would be a web page called 404.html inside of a 404 folder. It would be there to display whenever the web page entered can't be found.
