Testing HTACCESS files ?

Can I test another .htaccess file without affecting the original one ?

Sure, rename it to .htaccess.old and rename your new one to .htaccess, or test it in a subdirectory, or test it on a VPS, or test it with a local Apache install such as XAMPP.
