fixed footer/header layout

Hi all, I implemented something that works like this (sorry, I don't have hosting at the moment)- http://www.cssplay.co.uk/layouts/basics2.html . It works exactly like that site- the header stays at the top, the footer stays at the bottom, and you can scroll through the middle content. My problem is this: I wanted to add additional functionality to it, so that when you resize the browser window, the footer doesn't come up so far that it overlaps the header. Give it a try on that site-- the two overlap eachother when you make the window sufficiently small. The scroll bar will still be there, but you'll never actually be able to see the content.

Is there a way to do this? I tried to add a "min-height" to the main content area, but that didn't work, and all the examples I've found of fixed header/footer layouts have the bonus feature of the header/footer being able to overlap one another.
