.htaccess rewrite rule

Hi,

I need my webpage to be redirected from <mydomainname>/store?<somequery> to <mydomainname>/?<somequery>

I am trying to modify the .htaccess file. For example, I tried adding this code

RewriteRule ^store <mydomainname>/

and it didn't work. By <mydomainname> I mean the location of the website.
