domain name for seo

Hello,
I want to open a forum site about a certain subject. Of course the site name xxxxxxxxxxxforum.com or xxxxxxxxxxxxforums.com is already taken.

However, is it still good if I buy a domain name with the first word a little abbreviated and then forum.com? does it still help?

lets say the first word is 11 letter long. does it still help for seo if I buy a name first word 8 letter long (last 3 letters thrown out, first 8 letters exactly the same) and then forum.com?

so instead of

abcdefghijk.com

i buy the name

abcdefgh.com

is this still good enough for seo?

I do not know the definite answer to this but I would be inclined to say not. For instance, Google likes your incoming links to have keywords for the text. If the link in text said "comput" you wouldn't get any link juice for the keyword "computers". Not sure exactly how SEO works for URLs but I imagine its along the same lines.

You are facing a classic issue. There is no direct answer to your question but still I'd like to try.
In my books Exact Domain name holds 20% of importance, but as you are already aware finding an exact match is not easy in the first place. So if you get even 80% math its good, also you can implement sub domain to your benefit. For eg you want xxxyyy.com but you are getting yyycc.com then you can always make a subdomain xxx.yyycc.com.
IT WORKS !!!

URL is not that important. If you want to optimize your website for a keyword, use that in the title and keyword tags and include in the content. The keyword density should be 2-5%.

I usually prefer the longer domain which will be the exact match for the keyword that you're targeting.

For example,

downloadenglish.com and downloadenglishmovies.com

Suppose if you are targeting for the keyword, "download english movies", then the second domain option will be more preferable and it is easier to rank than the first one.

If domain name is not availabel just insert "hypens" or add nos... It does not have a great impact on seo...

Use full but not abbreviated keyword in your domain. If that name is already taken you can use things like info at the back of domain e.g., abcinfoforum.com. Hope it will help you.
