Can I do a username/password without the .htaccess pop-up window?

I've got a web site set up with a "members only" subdirectory, and I've also got my .htaccess and .htpasswd files working properly... currently using a shareware script for managing all the user names and passwords -- this part is all fine.

My question is: Is there some way I can have people enter their username and password as part of an html page rather than that little pop-up window that the server sends?

Maybe a Perl script that feeds the username and password to the server? I've also found a few Javascript password systems, but they don't seem as secure as the .htaccess/.htpasswd method...

Many thanks in advance!

You can include the username and password in the URL if you wish to bypass the popup dialog

http://username:password@www.domain.com/members

Can I do username/password as a form submit?

Thanks for that tip! That may be the simplest solution, but I was hoping there was some way to have people type in their username/password on my html page instead -- that way I can have a "login" type page with a form-submit. Do you know of any way to do that?

You could do it with a login form on the page and use javascript to form the URL as if you had typed it in with the username password but really that is just getting unsecure and more hassle than its worth.

If you want a login form then use a server side script like PHP or ASP.
