Unhappy Help a dummie (Photo editing)

I've gone and bought myself a digital camera. Problem is, I know zilch about digital image processing (or what's it called). I do know a little something about ordinary (film) photography but that doesn't apply.

So, could you recommend a software that's easy to use for a dummie but that also have manual possibilities, not all wizards. To grow in so to speak. I'm not primarily interested in effects, more correction or mild enhancement of photographs.

Photoshop is out of my league, both the price and the learning curve. Free is cool, but doesn't need to be (if it's cheap enough! )

i would recommend GIMP as an image processing prog. but its learning curve is even steeper than PS becasue it can do the same things but itsnot very well documented, and you have to trick it into doing some things

I would agree -- Gimp is harder to learn, but it is free. There is also a program called 'Tiffany' that used to be out, but I do not know if that is being created anymore.

For a cheaper version of photoshop, you can purchase 'Photoshop Elements':
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopel/main.html

It is 99 bucks, and you can do simple things like color correction, removing the red eyes, that stuff.

I decently priced alternative is Paint Shop Pro, that does quite a lot of things that Photoshop does, but cost only a fraction of the price.

I have it. I may be wrong, but I see it more as a drawing tool than a photo lab. But hey! I said I was stupid!

Tucows had these programs:

And, after checking out Tiffany, I believe it's Mac and they don't offer it any more. Sorry

I know, but most of those seem so general. I was hoping for something more specialized. "My little photo lab".

I have an Epson Scanner and on the disk for installing the drivers there is a photo editing program. I have never used it because I have Photoshop. Here is a link to it.
