Transparent images in PSP 7

I made an image in Paint Shop Pro 7 with the background color set to transparent but when I saved it, the background color changed to white. I've tried saving it under JPG and GIF but they both had the same result. I need to be able to use the image on various background colors for web design purposes, so how do I make sure that it remains transparent after it has been saved?

I would suggest if you have Photoshop create your image in it and use the save for web command, then select gif, trasparency, colors everything is there. go ahead and explore and it isn't difficult.

sorry if this is off the mark, in a hurry I read PSP7 as PS7

Nimbus,

Don't start an image with a transparent background - for some reason it never stays that way.

Instead, start with the image... black. Change the background colour to something like... #00ff00.

Design your image on top of the green background. Then when you chose transparent, select the #00ff00 colour. And set it as transparent before you save it (you can say the colour is transparent, but it won't save that way unless it's called from the seperate process).

Then save it as .gif or .png with existing pallet and transparency boxes checked.
