MSN Explorer is kinda like a skin for IE. There was a brief period of time where I worked as a quality assurance monitor for tech support calls for MSN. Most of these dealt with MSN Explorer. This was a while back and there have been quite a few upgrades (if you can call them that ).

You can see a learn alot about MSN Explorer by clicking "Help & Settings" (top right) -> "Show All Settings" (left side). The biggest problems I heard while monitoring dealt with "Poptimization". MSN Explorer will build its own dialer, connect to a sign-up server, and retrieve local numbers (if available). Of course, this is if you're using it with MSN internet access. Other issues were too numerous to list here (and I have a hard time remembering them in detail...lol)

Shortcut keys are almost a must, such as:
Ctrl+Shift+S = Display status bar.
Cut/copy/paste shortcuts for email.
F5 for Refresh/Reload.
In older versions, the sidebar couldn't be minimized. The only way to browse w/o it was to hit Ctrl+N to open a new window which didn't include the sidebar.

I dunno, it's attractive at first, but the lack of functionality grows old fast. I still mess with it from time to time, but I prefer Mozilla and IE .

MSN Explorer...

It's got some nice features (The integration with Hotmail is really cool!!)

But I think for someone such as yourself, mouse, you'll need to use a browser that allows you the functionality you want (Such as IE) My question is, if you want the funcitonality of IE, why use MSN Explorer in the first place?

Like I said, MSN Explorer has some really nice features and it has a lot of potential to become a real player in the market - but it's still in it's 'baby' stages - give it some time, maybe they'll throw in some of the IE features

IE's integration with Hotmail and messenger is laughable, it logs me in or out as it pleases and is generally unreliable cutting me off etc. Might try Neoplanet if that's still around, there were some pretty skins for that last time I tried it (version 5 )

Neoplanet is no good... well, the skins are nice - if that's all you want - but Neoplanet's browser uses the IE engine - which means, all the same stuff that happens with IE will happen with Neoplanet - if you take a look at the requirements for installing Neoplanet - you'll see that it requires you take have a version of IE installed.

Another thing about MSN Explorer is that it is quite a system resource hog. The web based email is one feature that isn't too bad (if the server doesn't happen to be down), along with the capability to add multiple user tiles. Each one is customizable, free, and provides email (@hotmail/@MSN) for each user tile.

The email (being web based) allows you to access it from anywhere with Internet access. You can, of course, access the email without using MSN Explorer (as with any hotmail account). Attachments are automatically scanned for viruses, and will use appropriate word processing programs (ie: MS Word) to provide spell checking. The spell checking will follow the same rules as set in the word proccessor.

However, running Word 2002 on XP, my MSN Explorer email spell checking works on and off (mostly off) . I'm not trying to bolster MSN Explorer (in contrast to my previous post), pointing out some of the positives, even though their only positives when they're working properly (not too often in some cases and most often in others). In the end, it just comes down to a matter of personal preference. Some love it, others hate it .

most experienced users hate it

I also love the profiling feature - it's a cool idea - but most experienced web users (and developers, etc.) hate the MSN version.. booo
