I don't think so, although it could be easily done if you executed multiple instances of the same image after another, so after the frame time in seconds has passed, the image would be deemed invisible.
For something like that however, I would recommend you either use Flash, or Ulead Cool 3D, which can apply ready made animations.
Or alternatively, you could edit the GIF file, and remove some frames, to give the impression that the fire is burning faster.
Just a thought.
