Unhappy animation stuff

hello to all

i'm building my site and i want to create a "WELCOME" fire text.
I created the frames and now i must compile them into an animated gif. But here comes the problem... is there a way to run run frames a fixed number of times. For example the first frames of the burning shows how the text "WELCOME" starts to burn then faster and faster. The animation contains 7 frames. The last 3 frames are the ones with "hard-burning".

Pls help me

I don't think so, although it could be easily done if you executed multiple instances of the same image after another, so after the frame time in seconds has passed, the image would be deemed invisible.

For something like that however, I would recommend you either use Flash, or Ulead Cool 3D, which can apply ready made animations.

Or alternatively, you could edit the GIF file, and remove some frames, to give the impression that the fire is burning faster.

Just a thought.

well...xara 3d is good but i wanted a fire text on my page, that xara 3d doesn't know how to create.

....look at the animations: http://me.on.net.tripod.com
the first animation contains all the 7 frames. the second is the fast-burning animation. i hope you'll understand what i tried to say. the burning process starts once but the "fast-burning" continues to infinite

take a look..pls

p.s.: and i still have one more question. do u know any free compressor for gif, jpg who does great job ??

For something like that, which actually loops from a certain frame, it would need to be done in flash imo, which would ignore the first frames after they have passed, and it would loop the rest of the file. I have never come across a GIF/animated png that would do that, so I think it is impossible in the means you are doing.

The only other way I can think of would be to play the first image and when it is finished do an image swap to the second. I think it would be a javascript to swap over the image. I might be way off here but it seems to me if you could set the image to swap with the right timing you could do it with the gifs.

timing would be a pain and might be off if you have difernt speeds

I am not a javascript programmer either. Maybe one of the other people that has responded to this thread could help though. I serched Dynamic Drive and Javascript Kit for a simple imafe swap but none seem to do it without some mouse event. Other option is to start a thread in the Javascript forum and maybe some kind soul there will help you out.
