Welcome to the "Web Projects" forums. Before you post, make sure you've selected the correct category based on the size of your project (in US dollars), or whether it is a partnership or "looking for work" request instead. Observe the guidelines for this section:
To all thread starters, check your "pm" box for responses, as that's how bidders will be communicating with you mainly using. You can turn on new pm notification by going to "User CP"-> "Edit Options"-> "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages".
To respondents, avoid replying to a thread with a short generic response like "pm sent" as much as possible. It is pointless and clutters up the screen.
To respondents, don't reply to a work request with a summary of your resume. If you're not willing to spend the time to at least read the request and respond specifically to the request, then don't reply. The Web Projects forum isn't a place to get your resume/ portfolio posted on as many threads as possible, it's for the direct, human interaction between coder and client. Members who blanket the forums with their resume replies will be treated as spammers and banned.
To all thread starters, please update your thread's prefix to "resolved", when you've found a coder for your project or partnership (or wish to terminate the request). This is so coders don't waste time bidding on an invalid project. To do this, click on the "Edit" button under the first post of the thread, then the "Go Advanced" button. You have 14 days to update your thread's title.
We're looking for someone who can design a simple website for us. It will be a USDA Angus natural beef for sale website where the first page has some pictures and the other page (I think we only need two) will be types of cuts to order with an order form on the page.
I see many sites where I will have to pay $250 to $750 for this design.
What would you recommend to get a website designed for the best price? I would really like to find someone who is good at positioning, and so I don't just want to hire a person that can design a site. I need to come up fairly high on the list for search engines because there are many others out there that do.

Reason: needed to add details
You're also not only probably talking about justa few pages for a site, but probably a database if you dont have one, some server-side scripting, and a few other things.
I know several people who bought cheap package deals from places that offered web design, with CMS functionality and SEO for only $1000-1200. In all cases, the people were unhappy with the results. And it's the primary reason why they came to me or one of my web development studios that I contract for, as they wanted a better site. In all cases we had to do it from scratch but they were much happier in the end.
I'd estimate a budget and work from there. Quality web design will cost money, and as the other person said, you'll probably need backend/server-side coding for database work and general website programming.
If you want something really cheap, you could try Shopify. You can buy templates there and sell stuff via their e-commerce application for a monthly charge. You may still need to contract someone to customize the layout (CSS/HTML) or make a new one for you if you don't want to look generic.
What kind of money are you talking about? I was thinking $750 for a two or three page design with a video on page 1, and an order blank on page 2. Do I need a third?
What are you going to do with the order? Will people complete the form, print it and mail it to you or will you be taking payments on-line? How are the orders going to get to the people who will fill the orders? If someone orders from you do you want them to be able to come back and, easily, order again?

Since we will be filling them, we will receive the orders.
Yes, I would like them to easily order again, and I would like to be able to send them emails inviting them to order as we replenish our supplies. (We will be selling Angus beef steaks, burgers, etc.)
You may want to look at a e-commerce/shopping cart solution which allows you to incorporate your own design and, usually, includes everything you need to handle on-line payments.

ok one thing you want to stay away form is site builders, they pretty much leave you high and dry down the road when to grow and you end up paying thru the nose to do it right..
second thing is if you want e-commerce there are some choices out there, i have tried a few of them, some are better than others but if your just starting out may i suggest just setting up paypal account and using their tools, reason is you may get over your head when it comes to posting, updating the software as well as other challenges, if your just starting off you need to keep it pretty baseline and then as you grow you can add better tools and get fancy..
i have used numerious e-commerce and i always end up right back at paypal, for what i do its easy, its affordable, it has the tools i need for what i do..
just a basic site your prob talking about 7 pages,
home, about us, contact us, 2 product pages minimum, privacy, (feedback or cust comments). and thats bare min...
i personally charge about 300.00 for 6 page very basic site. if you want the database thats more of course..
one more thing you need to consider when your shopping for a coder, always go with someone what validates their work W3C... always..

Then again, at the bare minimun, you are talking about more than 2 pages. You are also talking about setting up a shopping cart. You can do that without a database, but truthfully, I think its easier to go ahead and create a simple small database to handle your product page and cart variables rather than hand coding each cart.
Nothing is as easy and simple as it initially seems. lol Good luck!
Please DONT spend money on SEO and rankings....a banner ad or marketing campaign maybe sometime in the future, but you can get ranked high in search engines without spending a dime.

I soooo agree with that. This whole SEO business is a waste of money for what you can do youself. There are many websites that explain best practices for free.
