Question vista has to daily reauth to use domain printer?!?

Hi all,

sorry if title is confusing, not sure how to word it!

basically we have windows sbs 2003 domain. all our machines are XP and vista.

the problem we have is that we have a subcontractor in daily who needs to connect to a network printer every day.

i set him up with a domain user account with all the shares disabled. its just enough to get him to connect to a printer.

every day i have to connect to the server and then re-add the printer else i just get access denied when he tries to print. another subbie on winxp connects fine using the same account.

any ideas? its a pain every day i have to reconnect it for him and if im not in he is screwed.

im not too up on vista (its horrible) so any help appreciated

btw - he has vista home professional, wonder if thats the issue but he can connect fine connecting to \\servername then double clicking on printer, until he reboots and it wants to re-add the printer again to authorise it

Maybe this link will be of help? I'm afraid I also don't know vista, though its given me a fair share of headaches (my sister's notebook is also vista ¬_¬)

Also, check the error logs for system events. I'm wondering if shortly after boot its choking on not finding the DNS or something like that. If thats the case, you may be able to target by IP address instead of by machine name to see if that helps.

ok, for some reason in vista you cant seem to connect via an IP.

BUT if you search for network printers it finds them on the domain and doesnt require you to log in. so its working!

i hate vista!
