Never used SHTML before . . .

I created and take care of the website used by the Ham radio club, that I am the webmaster for. I use mostly Dreamweaver doing the pages and all the pages are .HTML.

On our membership page each member is listed and some have a personal page I created and then their name listing is also a link to another page with specifics about that user.

We recently got a new member that had his own website and he was looking to get rid of it as the guy hosting it was bringing his server down. So, I figured to use his pages and make that his extended page as directed form his name listing. Great, I just got the files from the webmaster where he is now. It has an images folder, so I'll just move those files into our images directory, but the four different pages(and a css file)are SHTML.

I did some reading and started learning about server side includes and I thought broadening my limited abilities would be good, but I thought I would check on the Forum here to see what I'm up against. The host is Hostgator and I'm on a Linux server.

This is the website of our new member as it runs from its original location. I would like to integrate this to our HTML type website(url at the top)as simply as possible and thought I'd check here, thanks

Well with shtml you are allowed to include other files into the page which you have discovered. You can't do this with just html unless you setup your server to parse the html files as shtml rather than html. You could also use php but that may be way over your head. Why don't you want to keep the .shtml files?

I do want to keep and use the shtml pages, but I'm not sure how they will work on a website that is 100% html.

If you can explain or direct me to the information, I will do it and start learning the whole subject, thanks

shtml is just html, except it allows you to use server side includes, that is all...
