Getting Started in PHP + Projects 4 hire

Hello my name is Chuck, an im a self taught graphic designer with semi pro skills in photoshop. I also know my way around HTML, Flash , Illustrator and some knowledge of XML and Java all of which ive self taught myself. I have no knowledge of PHP currently and im looking for someone who can point me in the right direction of understanding the bigger picture of php and getting everything installed and prep'ed.

The reason im teaching myself php is because i have several large projects. All of which with investors and id like to be as knowledgeable as possible when writting the business plan but, we will be hiring developers to actually execute. If you are interested in helping me get started and/or giving me a quote for my projects id be more than happy to pay you for your time.

There is also a smaller project i would be interested in hiring a developer for with a budget of about 1000$ if anyone has time.
