Question Making ONE of two fields required using Validate()

Hello,
I'm trying to implement a form that uses the jquery validate() method. Setting the class of each required field to 'required' makes it work fine. However...I'm not sure what to do when I have two text input fields, only ONE of which is required. The JavaScript itself is pretty easy, but how do I implement such a thing using the jquery validate() method?

Or should I use another method or plugin?

thanks!
