Viewing type of link from another site

Hello,
I will exchange link with another site. To make sure he didnt put a "no follow" link to me, if I view his source code with a right click, I would be able to understand it correct? or can he show a regular link when viewed by me on his source code, but actually it is a no follow?

View source and look for <a rel="no follow" .... </a>.

I'm not sure why he would add the no follow attribute though--doesn't really help him in any meaningful way.
