what is a .cps format image?

Some one sent me a scanned photo and it says image.cps.

What is this format? and is it a valid one to convert to gif or jpg?

I think it may be a Corel Painter file.

Mind you, I am not too sure - but it seems to be a pretty good possibility.

Usually extensions are acronyms of the product, like .xls, 3ds, fla, etc.

C is usually used by Corel, so head over there.
