font creation - how?

I was browsing a big font website last night but couldn't find the font I want. I know a family memeber is a calligrapher and her day=to-day handwriting is text-book stuff

So, how can I make my own ttf file? should I photograph each of here letters and then save them as something for later storage in the ttf file? maybe I should draw them in a draw program (perhaps tracing around a gif of her handwriting)?

any tips would be appreciated.

A quick google of "how to create your own font" yields some results but they cost about 10usd.

here maybe?

All the caption text in my homesite below is made using this program.
You can get rid of their added text by adding some spaces after your wording and then cropping the piece off.

See here for results.

Thanks Frank. That may be useful for something else I have in mind. I need to check their terms of use first though.

No idea if this is of any use, but worth a peek.

Might also be worthwhile seeing if there's anything you like on this site too, (if you haven't already seen it).

I found doubletype months ago but only today did I attempt to learn how to use it. It's a bit confusing at first but it seems pretty good.
