Firefox on a Stick?!

Since I only do web development in my spare time I tend to bounce around from one computer to the next depending on where I am at the time. This means that sometimes I have admin rights and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I have all of the applications I need (FTP, image editing, etc.) and sometimes I don't. I always kept an executable copy of Filezilla handy on a flash drive so that FTP was covered and this was usually enough to get me by.

On more than one occassion though I have found myself on a computer wanting to do some HTML/CSS coding but not being able to do so faithfully or efficiently since the PC I was on did not have Firefox and I had no way to install it. Arrgh!

Well the other day I finally crossed paths with Firefox Portable (from http://www.portableapps.com). I downloaded their base suite which includes the portable edition of Firefox 3.5 and looks extremely promising.

I went ahead and installed it on an extra flash drive I had and I was able to install the Firebug add-on as well as the Developer tool bar. So far so good. They also had a portable version of GIMP, 7-zip, XAMPP on a stick, and some other handy goodies so I grabbed just about all of them up. So far it seems too good to be true!

Has Christmas come early or am I in for some trouble with this software? Has anyone used it yet who can either recommend this software or warn me off of it?

It's usually a good idea to start out with this at the VERY TOP of your CSS: * {border:0;margin:0;padding:0;}
Seek and you shall find... basically:
validate your markup | view your page cross-browser/cross-platform | free web tutorials | free hosting

I've used portableapps.com for about 4 years now so I guess you are little behind the learning curve. I've noticed that Firefox does run a bit slower and may be unresponsive for a few seconds but this could just be the speed of my flash drive. If you are looking for a menu similar to the PA menu that is a little more customizable I suggest you look into geek.menu. It works with TrueCrypt if you use it but will work fine with a normal drive.

Yes, to say the least.

I've really only been getting into coding and design since late 2008 (when I first signed up here to ask a question about javascript and read up on this new thing called "CSS"), which is when I first started to use Firefox anyway. I'm a relative new-comer to the arena...

Anyway, thanks for the confirmation of this software and the link to the menu system!

I'm a college student so working on multiple computers usually happens and I wanted to have my everyday apps with me. I still haven't gotten around to sync might bookmarks only because I'm to lazy to do so or haven't found the right thing to do it. I've tried delicious once just didn't stick with it.

If you're on Ffx, what about Weave?

Hmm, sounds very buzz-wordy on their page.

We're going to shift the paradigms and realign cost productivity models to advance excellence in boosting user compatibility with a focused drive toward integrative mobility and flexible positron emission.

So...what exactly is this supposed to do? It sounds a lot like a Mozilla version of what AOL used to be back in the late 90s and that's not very appealing to me.

It syncs your bookmarks across multiple firefox installations. That's it, really.

I ended up using foxmarks so I can merge any bookmarks I create when using a different system.
