Session Cookies, how do I detect

I've written a simple document.cookie for a session cookie. What I need to know is when a user navigates to the next page, how can I get that page to "get" that cookie. If the session cookie is not there, I want it to redirect to another pager. (this I know how to do) I'm not storing any data in the cookie, and not interested in retrieving any data from the cookie, just want to make sure it's there.
I've played with the IF (getcookie('cookiename') but I believe I'm not setting the rest of the parameters right.
I've attached a copy of the simple script I started
