Help Wanted

Hello, I am looking for people with the same dream I have. No, I do not have money to offer you, but a chance to make something great. E.G.N or Entertainment Gaming Network is the name. In the future we might offer money, but we just don’t have the funds to do so. I hope to become a corporation one day and pay everyone that helps us. If we try I think we can. We need people skilled in many things. Also, you can add EGN to a resume if you ever apply for a job. Oddlaws has came up with a list of what we need:

****************************
EGN Language Listings
****************************
by OddLaW
-----------------------------------

****************************
LIST:
****************************
- HTML
- PHP
- SQL (possibly)
- If you use PHP, you don't need ASP. They do 'basicly' the same.
- CSS
- Javascript (for menus, navigation)
- C++, I have no clue I'm not any good at it, and never tried to learn it, I don't even know what it does besides its a programming language.
****************************
Non – Language programming
- Graphics Designers
- Writers
- Reviewers
- Previewers
- Interviewers

****************************
Comments:
****************************
- You don not need ASP if you use PHP.
- PHP can upload things, just have to set permissions (CHMOD: 777)
- CSS is best for style shetting so it's not a ***** changing colors.
- I'll be using PHP $varibles to code the layout, so it's simple updating, and making.
- Javascript will only be used for top menu's (we EGN will have them) Like MFO has.
- SQL can snatch things from a Database, we may need that.
- HTML, OH FO SHO! duh! hehe.
****************************

Sincerly,
OddLaW

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

is this against the forum rules or not?

anyhow, it looks like you don't really have a clue about half the stuff you are talking about (which is fair enough in a way - I guess that's why you need people to help you) however, you will definitely need to give people a better idea of what you need before anyone can really do anything.

What is your site all about, anyway?

EGN will be a site much like IGN, but better. We are currently working on the template which can be located http://www.hexidigital.com. We are scrambling to gather money to purchase servers and domains. One of the featured sites will be called Ask Me Out. On Ask Me Out you will be able to find singles fast and easy with ease. Also, unlike most dating websites it will be free, and it will always be free. Along with signing up you have access to articles and tips on dating.

Well, I'm not sure. My considered opinion is that this isn't SPAM per se, but all the same - Kingkerry, you are asking a lot. Particularly when none of us know you already - not in a bad way, but volunteers first need to be re-assured that you're a good person to work with (I'm sure you are, but that's not the point) - hanging round the forums and getting to know people first would be a much better way.

sourcefourge is chocka with pages that say things like "I want to build a first person graphic adventure for Linux PDAs and all I need is someone who knows how to do it". I'm not saying that's you, it's just that this forum is best suited to specific questions and discussions about specific things.

Soliciting help on major projects seldom gets a big response, except for wide-appeal projects organised by a number of known members (the 9/11 site being a prime example)

WA will become famous soon enough
Brothercake analyzed this thread perfectly- I'll refrain from calling this thread a spam (see our rules: http://www.codingforums.com/rules.htm under solicitation), though what you are asking is a lot nevertheless. This thread will remain open.

I wouldn't call it that...

Were going to open up a place where people can easily find someone within 0.01 of a mile away. We will be including other goodies such as tips, articles, and fashion tips when going on a date. I didn't give out the layout, but it can be located http://www.hexidigital.com/update.jpg . I really do want to get this up asap.

Sorry Admin, I was trying to get people to help me out. Since good help is hard to find these days.

yes but kingkerry, you are not really offering anything in return. We've spoken about this on MSN, and as I said then, what you are doing is no different to loads of other projects out there. Why would people want to get involved if they are not going to get anything out of it?

As you know, I set you a challenge: show me something that sets my head nodding with interest and I will provide server space for you. However, I have yet to see anything that grabs me, and even the email I received from you today mainly whitters on about the myriad people you have got lined up to do stuff and how great it all is

Well, basically if you want anyone from these forums to get involved then you will have to prove that there is something worth doing here. The question is, can you do that?

Actually krycek, there is some things I can offer. If you need something on your resume I will gladly help any of you out with that. There is one thing about this network that is different from others. We are covering celebrities yes, but how many actually know celebrities? I can easily contact any celebritiy from Warners Bros, Paramount Pictures, Disney, and Dreamworks to arrange a interview. If I didn't have much to offer, then why are so many people interested in joining? The reason is they see a dream that I have. to where a person can enter a site and find just about anything they ever dreamed of before. That is my goal. I want to build a series of gaming sites focused on certain games and a few celebrity site. Also, I have gathered some people that can build EGN Online where people can play dominoes, chess, checkers, etc. This is my dream.

I'm not knocking your dream, but...

1. I personally don't need anything else on my resume It's kinda too long already!

2. I personally have no interest in "knowing" celebrities

3. You saying that you can "easily contact" any celebrity from those places (that's a lot of celebs, and some big ones, too) kinda leaves me a bit sceptical...

4. Some people will join anything! ...also, if you have so many people, why are you still looking?

5. "... find just about anything they ever dreamed of..." erm, that's the Internet. I can find anything I want, on Google! Also, there's places that are like what you are aiming to do... such as MSN. And they have money.

6. There are tonnes of gaming sites...

7. There are tonnes of celebrity sites...

8. "...where people can play dominoes, chess, checkers, etc." um, kinda like MSN, you mean?

OK, so far I see nothing unique. Nothing that grabs me as a great idea. Nothing to distinguish this from all the other similar projects floating around. The fact you are 17 and still at scholl does not insipre great confidence... not that I'm at all agist! (I'm only 21 )

As for what people are going to get back, your dream is ok for you but other people want more. Money is a good one, but you don't have that. "Something to put on your CV" - sorry, resume (I'm a brit) - is OK for people that have very little on there, but you're wanting top people to help you and so you'll need to offer more.

The kind of things that appeal to me probably appeal to most people, and you haven't managed to get me out of the cynicism blocks yet. Despite the fact that I offered you free hosting if you win me over

Come on, I'm actually trying to help you here. But you need to come up with more than that!
