Indexing a website

It can be really cool to try out new things sometimes, but sometimes it can be a real worry on how to do it right.

Basicly i'm trying to create specific search engine for website, that should have some kind of proper "logic".
Now, i've seen something i hope it's called indexing. Is that a good way to start with building search engine database?

And one more question, how many words can a BLOB have, or what is the best field type for index?

Index is supposed to be all the words that are in certain unique articles id's cleaned with \s regular expression
