Two words on color : clash and contrast. Because the colors clash, and because there's such low contrast, it's difficult to read.

the page is far too wide for us 800*600ites, can that be sorted? bear in mind that just below half of all users apparently use that resolution.

the colours are another small issue... if your staying with those ones how about just adjusting the shades slightly, making the darks abit darker and the lights abit lighter?

otherwise its grand

first of all ... please change the font! i don't think anyone is very fond of Times New Roman.
as for the colors...users are not necessarily going to be impressed by the fact that ur color combo is unusual, but rather by the attractiveness and readability. i, for one, am very quick to abandon sites with unpleasant colors. a possible reason u didn't find this combination anywhere else is because usually sensible sites try to adopt color combinations that are pleasing and readable.

hope u find this link helpful:
http://www.efuse.com/Design/palettes.html

and the 3rd point made over here:
http://www.efuse.com/Design/top_10_do_s_and_don_ts.html

you are after all, making this site for your users, it's them you have to please.

for screen res stuff:

http://javascriptkit.com/script/cut162.shtml
http://javascriptkit.com/script/cut135.shtml

cheers

true, but i find making a site for myself and not going crazy trying to please users works out alot better.
you ARE pleasing the users, but in the end, if you dont like it, you prolly wont upload it.

also "Agency FB", is this a font only on your computer? or am i just exposing the age of my own?

and yea, you should optimize your site for 800x600 at the smallest, again thats your decision.
those navigation butons are a little on the blurry side.
also, the code is a little sloppy, but thats a WYSIWYG for you

Fluid layout

You don't need a "code" to determine screen resolution; if you make your layout fluid instead of fixed, it will always fit the available width. Besides there's no reason why a user should view your page in a maximised browser window, so determining window size would be more approriate anyway.
Personally I'm a bit put off by those "fat" black lines around everything, and those button texts do look awfully blurry and pixelated.

@cg9com: I'm aware that most WYSIWYG editors make it - far too - easy to build sloppy code, but a decent one - in this case some version of Dreamweaver - offers plenty of influence on the resulting code, so there's no excuse for not cleaning the code up.

WYSIWYG:

W hat
Y ou
S ee
I s
W hat
Y ou
G et.

A term (well, an acronym) for visually oriented applications, be it web design tools, word processors, IDEs, etc. These applications present the result of whatever you can do with them in a way it should eventually look in real life (in a browser, on paper, as a working program, etc.).

For your buttons you could consider using CSS (:hover pseudo-class), or javascript, to change properties on mouseover rather then an image rollover; that way you can use normal text which will look good and take up far less room / download time.

"The screen size thing" can be accomplished by not giving the layout table and gubbins inside (cells, etc.) a fixed width in pixels, but in percentages. a combination of a fixed width columns with variable width ones is also possible.

lol...of course noone's going crazy for users and u're definitely designing for urself... but if we're incidentally putting our users off and driving them off our site for the sake of 'pleasing' ourselves then there isn't much point in that design...
