Profit from WP Templates

There are hundreds of sites out there giving away free WordPress Templates that it makes me want to stop trying to sell mine. Is there actually someone who buys a template or not? If so, what kind of template are we talking about?

I think a lot of free templates are given out for a few reasons:
  1. So people install and have a reciprical link to the authors site
  2. To provide subpar templates to the public that aren't sold
  3. To participate in the open source spirit

I think if your templates are good, and have a narrow target (niche) audience you are more likely to sell it then if you just have a general blog style.

People buy sites more, try sell websites to clients instead. Chances are if they've already set up WordPress, they'll know enough to template it, or find a template somewhere.

FWDrew is on a distinguished road
Take a look at themeforest.net to get an idea of premium themes that sell well. There are a lot of reasons to buy a theme, for one quality, two a lot of people outsource their work by buying themes and delivering them to the client.

Regards,

Drew

There is 3600 google searches a month for "premium wordpress themes"

How to get that to your site?

make 10 free themes and have your link at the bottom saying something like "premium wordpress themes" use https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to decide keywords.

Then on your site, have those 10 under free themes and the main page should be premium themes and your custom services ect...

Then submit your free themes to every single site you are able to on the internet, that allows free wordpress theme submitting.

done.
