How to embed binary data in XHTML pages?

I just wanted to know if there is an option to embed binary images/data as part of a XHTML page using XHTML Basic 1.0 which as everyone knows includes the minimal set of modules required to be an XHTML host language document type.
Does the "dt" attribute of XML work in XHTML Basic 1.0. I know that you have to encode using Base64 encoding scheme. But does XHTML Basic 1.0 support this?
Please reply to this asap.
thank you
regards
Vasant

What "dt" attribute? XML is a standard for developing markup languages, and by itself doesn't define any attributes of a document's elements.
