Transparent areas

Hey guys,

Any way to create something such as text in photoshop, say the word 'Title' and then save it so that when you use it on a background picture you only see the word and nothing else?

When I save it there's obviously a white background to the text - even though it has a transparent background in photoshop.

Thanks

Mxx

Save it as a gif, and apply transparencies to it.

To do it the easy way, open up Microsoft Photo Editor, that does it nice and quick with the click of a button.

It is easy when you know the quickest way, when having to apply transparencies to literally hundreds of images consecutively.

Note that if your text is anti-aliased you're going to want to set matte to the colour of your page background (or if your background is an image, perhaps set the matte to an average colour of the image) because there's no anti-aliasing with gifs PNGs have support for it I think, but PNGs aren't too widely accepted yet I don't think.

If you can do it without losing much quality, simply turn text anti-aliasing off for your text layer and then save without a matte at all. Then it'll work on all background colours

It is a fast way to do it, using Photo Editor, and well I personally find it as being the quickest too. And png's are unreasonably big, I prefer using gif's instead.

Index and alpha transparancies

Hi everyone,

While on the subject of transparencies, can someone tell me the differences between index and alpha trasparencies? When and where are they correctly used?
