Right because 100,000 Yen is roughly 1000 US.

A normal enterprise-level project goes into the millions of dollars in development costs. Enterprise-level web sites are no exception. If I remember right, Amazon.com was started with a $300k loan from Jeff Bezos' parents. Of course, that had to cover inventory and overhead so it wasn't all spent on website development.

And have you seen the Google offices?

(edit) holy crap, looks like they've gone green (solar panels everywhere including parking lot)!

Well, I’ve heard from a small business owner who asked a design agency (which offered standardized website design service for around €1,500) to design a custom website that this could cost up to €25,000 – Euros, that is, for those who don’t know the symbol. At the current rate that would be almost $40,000.

I’m not sure if this price is justified or if they just went that high because they don’t know sh!t about web design and if they would have had to wast… err, spend the time to learn while doing it they would at least be paid exceptionally well but they’d rather not be bothered with such a commission so they just set that price to scare the client away… anyway, they even told him to rather ask a freelancer because that would be a lot cheaper (and that brought him to me).

However, if I look at the Giants website American Eagle developed I see that they do provide a lot of functionality like shop, chat, games, etc. Maybe they even host and update it? So I could imagine that for such an all-round service they would charge that much.

Although I think the Giants website is awfully wide and not actually good design wise.
