Need feedback on my new dating site for geeks.

Hello,

I recently launched www.geekplusone.com. It's a community for geeks, by geeks, about geeks. Any feedback you have would be appreciated.

Also, I have a lot of features planned for the site and I'm looking for a programmer that can do a large custom project in a reasonable amount of time. Please get in touch with me using the e-mail address below with a resume if you're interested.

Thank you.

I think it looks nice. Nothing too ground breaking about the design... very Web 2.0, but it's nice.

When I view your code, it seems oddly spaced out. I'm assuming this is due to what ever program your using to manage your site, still this spacing could be adding extra kb to your site size and keeping dial up users waiting just a tad bit longer; although since you're targeting geeks, what geek doesn't have high speed?

You get some validation errors when I ran your site through the validator... I would try to work those out.

the improvements I can think would be to possible style your form inputs. They just seem a little blan. I also don't care for the purple hover color of your menu bar... just a little hard to read. I also didn't immediately notice your poll change when I clicked an answer, it was a bit confusing.

All in all, pretty good though.

Hi Brett,

Yeah, I'm not sure why the code has all of those spaces. Good point. Easy to fix.

I'll definitely touch up the hover color.

There's still a lot of work to be done.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's quite nice, quite modernist.

I don't really like the logo as it's quite difficult to remember and not very...you know, clear.

I've also noticed that the eye struggles to find a place to rest: there's no clear area to "begin". There's just too much information, and that's not because I don't have my contact lens in.

I like your site very much. The design is pleasing to me as a geek and although it's something I would never design, it's very gender neutral. Which is good, based off your target audience.

Although I did not look at your scripts, I did immediately what I do any time someone has a sign up button. I tried to sign up. I don't know if it just doesn't let users log in immediately or what, but I'm afraid you require way too much information and now I can't go and change it. It could be floating out around the internet. Very disconcerting to say the least.

But anyways, it would be nice if there was a little more information when you're signing up ABOUT signing up. What is and isn't shown to other users, what you can change later...blah blah blah. I'm just talking about usability here. Perhaps it's something to do with your code, in which case you should immediately change that. But if it's just some serve blup I ran into, I wouldn't worry about it.

Well good work!

Cluttered myspace clone.

Good idea.

on the "take a spin" section. When I change it to 'woman' and take a spin it changes back to man so I have to continually change it back. kinda annoying.

If your definition of geek is correct, then I guess I am a super geek...

Your website threw up mysql errors (username: paulatreides) when I tried clicking on the FAQ buttons and the take a spin dropdown. I hope that it's because you are currently working on it, otherwise you might wanna check that.

To top it off though, maybe you should make the geek definition look more like a dictionary definition. Like this:
Geek Slang
- Noun
1. one who is primarily motivated....

And if you're a true geek you'd note that it's countable (:
