What is the point of all this code to embed a flash file?

What is the point of all this code to embed a flash file? It looks real redundant by Dreameaver. Things like width and quality are stated again and again?

If I want to put in <param name='flashVars' value='play=true'> how do I do it? Do I need to put it in 3 times among this code?

With that code yes. Thats Adobes implementation of putting flash on the page to get around the "Click to Activate" thing in some browsers. Personally I recommend http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/

Version 2.0 is better but harder to use. v1.5 is straightforward.

Seems as if I should go with v2 because it seems more future proof.
