difference between php and asp, asp.net

I know php well enough to get by, but can't figure what the difference is between php and ASP and ASP.net.

It is microsoft version of php? how is it configured? When do I start?

How and where would I put the scripts if I need to use them?

One of the main differences in php and asp is that php is free. Hosting for php is also cheaper as it can run on apache or windows. ASP can only run on windows. Yes asp was created by MS hence why you need a windows server to run it. You seem to be asking quite a few questions that are very basic. Learning the languages first might be your first step as it seems that you haven't actually looked into what these languages actually do.

In my opinion, PHP would be a better language to learn because:
-It seems to have a wider general functionality
-It can be run almost anywhere. If you install it, you can use it.
-It is fairly easy to learn

If you will be in an all Microsoft environment, asp would be much better as it will integrate very well(ahem...) with everything else.
