Smile Review web page

I recently changed my web site to using CSS. Please take a look at it and see where it could improve. For example, one guy suggested losing the background image.

The index should be clean. The other pages use camel case for the javascript and I'll have to change that.

[edit - I see what you are talking about. I added an include to give some meta stuff and that is 95% of the errors. I also added the live clock and that is the rest of them. I'll do them tonight.]

WOW, that was interesting.

Some don't like links to open to a new page (target=...), but I do. Is there a different way to achieve this? It's the only current old tag on the page (I worked on it last night as I told Andrew I was going to).

I'll check the meta - description at lunch. I thought that was in there.

Code:
<a href="url" onclick="window.open('url'); return false;">click here</a>
- href for js disabled
- onclick for rest
works with xhtml strict and replace old target attribut

best regards

- don't repeat keywords metatag, and put Democrat Forum first two words in it. That probably must be your keywords target, the content of the page could/must be changed, the keywords target not.
- don't use many keywords, is useless, focus on specific, poll and humor probably must follow democrat forum in keywords
- google don't care keywords, but care about yahoo and yahoo care keywords,
- add meta tags for yahoo and msn, are a lot but only few usefull, don't forget dc - dublin core meta
- put js into and external file and remove all useless stuff and identation, keep as short you can, same with css if this is the case( inline declaration, I don't look for it).
- remove useless comment from html, the page is small but you can improve the speed
- take a look to the image size and number of requests, maybe you can improve the speed

I'm talking only about first page, sorry but I don't have to mach time, you probably catch the idea and repeat for main pages.

best regard

Thank you. I'm at 85% now with the SEO site, but that was holding me back from the 90ish I was looking for. Doubt I'd get 100% as that 'rel="nofollow"' part seems odd. But my site has links in it and this will take care of them.

Thank you again. I'm bookmarking the cite and will examine it at home. Most of the imges were from the CSS menu system. I put 5 to 6 on myself. 1 or 2 will be larger as they are photoshopped images of current news items.

rel="nofollow" is usefull, the se bots follow the link if you don't have it instead of reading your site. If you think that a link to some site is important for you, just don't 'nofollow' that link.

about images, focus on the biggest,

when you take decisions keep in mind that content is more important then seo stuff or speed.

Edit:
you can 'nofollow' the internal links too, sometimes is usefull,

best regards

It seems strange to me that one would use nofollow on your hard-coded links except for, perhaps, an example of spam.
If you're actually linking there in the first place, surely you are vouching for the content on that site?

In my case, I republish (steal - but with permission) toons and give them a link back so people can see their work in the original setting. If "nofollow" will keep a spyder at my site and the link still works thats OK with me. As I'm a small timer (only a few hundred visitors a day), I want to get the best boost I can.

yes or no, depends on content, context, reputation, trust, a lot of factors.

nofollow is first of all a technical problem:
- for you and others are important backlinks with page rank grather then yours
- some sites don't want to be visited by spiders each time they are refered
- you can have multiple links to the same page with different url, and with each external link your page rank is lower
- the process of indexing is allways long enough, follow the links make it longer and don't help anybody

best regards
