My Web Project

Hello everyone!

My name is Neil and I recently created a website called HTML Ghost to help beginners, and also experience HTML programmers to reference to. I would really like it if you checked it out, and left me a review and/or suggestions here!

URL: HTML Ghost

Thanks!
Neil

Its awful. You are teaching bad habits to people who are new to HTML. Its better to teach them the proper way so they don't have learn new things once they realize that what they were using was bad to begin with. I suggest you read the link in my sig titled "Why Tables for Layout is Stupid?". You should read this about frames: Why frames are so evil?.

Also I suggest you get better with HTML/CSS before you start trying to teach others.

The embed tag is also invalid code. None of your images have alt attributes. And you also use modifiers incorrectly. The correct term is attributes.

looks good, great for begginers, but as far as im concerned teaching them to automatically have a doctype should go inside the basics. Thats the only thing i have for you. The rest looks good!!

This is true, but the things i think of when i see a begginers guide to HTML, all i think of are people and maybe personal sites. Maybe even wondering how and why html works. I do belive if you are going to learn html, css is a must have also. Other than that i have no suggestions!!

Thanks!

Sorry about the modifiers thing, I just used it as a simple word for people to understand. Like I said, most of it is not done, I have only have it up for about a week, so I am trying to get every page done and then go back and modify and make them better.

Thanks for the comments,
Neil

Okay, now lets examine these tags. The <HTML> tag specifices that the document is HTML. You MUST have this tag in order to use HTML.
1) No it doesn't--that's what the DTD is for
2) No you don't. Try putting <p style="font-family: 'lucida sans unicode', sans-serif;">Hello, World!</p> into a .html doc and guess who appears?

Noble idea but I agree with everyone else. Become more familiar before you become a teacher.

For example I was just browsing around and on the http://htmlghost.110mb.com/tables.html page I randomly viewed your source to see how your markup was and you didn't even close your HEAD tag!

Neil,

First, consider your environment. The web is very saturated with tutorials on HTML, a classic one being w3schools.com. You're entering a tough area to compete in as an HTML reference. But if it's something you really want to do, read the 2nd paragraph here.

Second, before making tutorials, it is highly recommended that you fully understand the concepts you're teaching and have become extremely adept at utilizing these concepts and techniques. Learn what standards are, CSS, and all the debate that surrounds the proper coding of websites. You have information and tags on your website that is now considered deprecated according to the HTML 4.1 standards. You wouldn't write a paper on the theory of gravity if all you knew about was Newton's laws. You're only seeing one point of view and more importantly, a theory that no longer fits the grand model (although works on smalls scales). Same in your case with HTML. You're only seeing the beginner's side of it and more importantly, a side that doesn't fit in with the grand model of standards and presentation (although it works for you now).

And last, you should always host your images on your web host. Why would you ever host your images somewhere else? Everything should be hosted on your web host unless it belongs to someone else and they have given you permission to "hot link". On a side note, your ghost has the iStock Photo watermark, which means you have an illegal copy of a graphic. I suggest you make your own version of the graphic or purchase it from iStock.

Neil,

I'm sorry if you feel we ruined your website idea. That wasn't our intentions. It's just that if you're going to become a teacher or a tutor, you should really be much more knowledgeable about your subject. I definitely encourage you to pursue creating websites, especially ones that are on a personal level, like your hobbies. The more you build websites, the more you learn and the more experience you gain. But you must know that when you come into a community that is populated by people who make websites for a living, you will find people passionate about how website presentation and markup should look and act. So you will get more criticism than you expect. But take it with a grain of salt. We're here to help you grow, not hinder.

Good luck!

Not that I'm telling you to stop this idea, but I've not actually seen a nice reference site for how to replace memory, graphics cards and whatnot. Something telling me what all the jargon was probably would have helped me when I bought that RAM...

Anyway, something to think about.

I'd suggest taking a look at your competition to have a look on what they're doing, too. Not copying, mind, but some ideas.

You need a doctype, valid html, better style on the page. Don't use tables for layouts, use divs.

Sure mate. I rekon make a site about tits. They're totally awesome and there can never be enough quality jubblies on the internet. I don't mean nudity neccessarily, (although that certainly is popular) just quality racks. You can always expand to booty, have rack/booty/chick of the week/month etc. and it's likely to keep your interest for years to come. (with the obvious exception, you do not like chicks in which case.. sux 2 b u!) hehehe

There ya go, an idea for ya Neil.

I hope this helped someone. Due to this forums lame rep system penalising me for nothing, and admins inability to do anything about it, I'm sorry to say I will no longer be online here. Pride is important. Good Luck All.

hmm, I don't like this. You give some good answer to question, you help few people. I don't know how many but you help them.
- why do you care about rep stuff ?
- how do you "hope this helped someone", by "don't help is stupid" ?
- why do you think that "rep system penalising me for nothing", how you can be sure that you are right?

best regards
