I may be a dumb *** but what is with all the dark colors on sites here lately. While I am surfing and exploring I not only find the dark colors hard on the eyes but the text is often hard to read. In the case of your site that green on black is hard on the eyes but then maybe it is that I am just old.

I'll go along with that. What is the point of low contrast displays. Everybody that I have spoken to about this, do as I do. Leave the site immediately and go for one that is easy to read. I thought the idea was to make the site available to as many as possible.

Difficult to read displays work contrary to this dictum

This isn't low contrast, not really, when comparing it to the rest of the web. It's a godsend, to be honest. A dark grey on white is quite contrasting. I've seen worse.

No, I think the problem is the very low size of the font. That's what makes it hard to see--I find myself leaning in and squinting very slightly--and I'm really quite young...
